Early morning rantings

I am trying to keep up on all the tournament action and team ratings and it's a busy, busy weekend.


The coffee doesn’t seem to be waking me up much but here are some early Sunday morning predictions for tournaments around the Midwest.  Look for my updated Grassroots 17U ratings sometime this week:

21st Annual Gateway All American Teams

Look for SW Illinois Jets Orange (117 rating) to polish off Jets Blue (110) or Illinois Bears Walker (115) in the final.

Prep Hoops Midwest Grind Wichita

In the Grit division, the already hot, hot St. Louis Blazers (124) heat up to beat Team Buddy Buckets Gaddis (120)  by three but lose to a nationally ranked Buddy Buckets OK team (134) by 11 in the final.

Too early to call.... Lincoln Supreme National 1, Hoffman Hoops Academy, South Dakota Network, Playmakers Showcase Shaw all show promise.

2020 National Basketball Championship

Urban DFW Elite (127) and Dallas Showtyme Elite (127) should face off in the final with the Texas Elite Texarkana (121)
and Pro Skills SATX Black (120) challenging Showtyme and Team Foe Elite (120) looking for a semi-final upset
of Urban DFW.  Don't count out Texas Impact 4:13.
Hardwood Classic - Session II

Brackets have not been finalized but D1 Minnesota (134), Kingdom Hoops (128) and YOBO (128) could be
 in the final with D1 winning out.  Team GoL1ve (122), Mokan Select (120) and Carroll GoL1ve (120) all have
looked good.

Armoured Elite Arkansas (109) routs Go Hard Basketball StL (89) and then dismantles SEMO Select (98) in the final.

Grassroots 17U boys ratings for week of 8/31/2020 -UPDATED 9/03

UPDATED 9/03 I DID A MORE COMPLETE ANALYSIS OF THE PANGOS TOURNAMENT AND UPDATE THE TOP 100 TEAMS.  That moves both Seattle Rotary teams in to the #2 and #4 spots.  The 17U Boys Grassroots ratings are starting to look more normal with the Seattle Rotary and California teams finally making a show in the Pangos Rocky Mountain Summit in St. George, Utah.  I am still missing a majority of East and West Coast tournaments due to Covid cancelations or my Google search ignorance.  Some major tournaments make it real hard to find actual team scores.  If you have meaningful tournament results, drop me a link and I will factor them in.  A significant problem with fewer tournaments is that the power ratings are less robust. Hopefully, some of the newer teams on the list will keep playing and I will get more data on them.  In the meantime, we shall see how these teams shake out with the next Grassroots session in Indianapolis.  It was a weekend of ups and downs for some teams in the Prep Hoops Finale and Rumble up North.  In the Rumble up North, D1 Minnesota looked great as always, handling all teams with ease.  Team Speight was impressive also.  On the down side, Buddy Buckets OK had a rough game, uncharacteristically losing to an excellent Wisconsin Playground UAA squad by 17, but rolling over some other excellent teams.   I rate teams for the entire season, so despite the 17 point loss, I still rank TBB OK above Playground. In the Prep Hoops Finale in Kansas City, Mokan Select surprised with a top notch tournament but lost to an excellent CarrolGoL1ve team in the final.  Other top teams included Grind and Advance, which lost to Mokan by one, Chicago Demons, Colorado Hawks and DBR.  On the down side, local St. Louis-based Gateway and St. Louis Blazers did not put their best foot forward, losing several games that I would not have expected them to lose, based upon prio...

17U Boys Grassroots Basketball Rankings - week of August 24th

 Here's my updated "17U" Grassroots Boys basketball ratings.  I say "17U" because there are a few 16U teams that have played up and done very well.  Drive5 Elite 2022 is one that has stood out and is in the number two position this week. A few caveats with these ratings.: The Pandemic has wreaked havoc on Grassroots tournaments.  Much of the Northeast and West Coast tournaments have been canceled or delayed.    I keep looking for well-known and highly successful teams from years past and cannot find them.  I will continue to look and add teams for the next couple of weeks. Tournaments do not always list teams by the same name or coaches name.   I may have a team listed twice under two variations of the same name.  Good tourney directors add the state and coaches name.  If I have your team in the wrong state, please let me know.
